What is the difference between a serum and a moisturizer?

Serums and moisturizers are very beneficial for the skin in different ways. Serums contain very powerful ingredients that are designed to nourish, repair, and replenish your skin. Serums are formulated with highly concentrated antioxidants, anti aging or skin firming ingredients that are meant to penetrate the skin more deeply than a moisturizer.

A moisturizer is meant to reduce the loss of moisture in the skin. Moisturizers are formulated with sealing ingredients and thickeners that prevent moisture from leaving the skin. A moisturizer will work to re balance and hydrate the skin and form a protective barrier on the skins surface.

The biggest difference between a serum and a moisturizer is size. Molecules are much smaller in serums which allows them to penetrate deeper into the skin carrying their potency to a lower elemental skin level. Moisturizers are full of bigger molecules, which prevents them from traveling past the first layer of the skin.

It is always best to apply your serum on damp skin before your moisturizer!
